Title: Issue #102: All in on EDA Publication: Ready, Set, Cloud! Series: Ready, Set, Cloud Picks of the Week Author: Allen Helton Published: March 11, 2024 URL: https://www.readysetcloud.io/newsletter/102/ 2024 is shaping up to be the year of event-driven architectures ### Serverless Superhero Our serverless superhero this week is [Elad Ben-Israel](https://rdyset.click/MDkooK), co-founder and CEO of [Wing](https://rdyset.click/9if5Tp) and creator of the CDK! Elad has done so much for modern cloud development, he has literally helped shape the way we get resources into production - and he's doing it again with Wing! Elad is a visionary in this space and a phenomenal speaker. Thank you for everything, Elad! ### Interesting Reads [Ran Isenberg](https://rdyset.click/Y0vEZQ) released part two of his series on generating OpenAPI documentation from your code, this time focusing on [CI/CD workflows and proper guardrails](https://rdyset.click/Pzgm9f). This is a great, pragmatic approach to documentation generation. I really like the addition of breaking change detection in the workflow, which is the most important part of API-first development in my opinion. I love seeing novel approaches to solving problems we've seen time and time again. Especially when the novel approach is more secure and potentially more environmentally sustainable. This is exactly what [Jason Wadsworth](https://rdyset.click/uTwyRZ) did in his post on [Lambda-less AppSync for SaaS](https://rdyset.click/nCeag9). He doesn't describe the approach as more secure or green in the article - those are my words. But it definitely is! He shows us how to connect AppSync to a Step Function workflow with direct integrations to DynamoDB using tenant-specific roles for data access. I love the idea and his inclusion of the trade-offs to this approach. There's typically a "one way or the other" mentality when it comes to building serverless APIs: *single responsibility functions* and *lambda-liths*. Last week [Luca Mezzalira](https://rdyset.click/l2qWem) published a great article showing us there's [another way to approach the problem](https://rdyset.click/hFLpgm). He explains the pros and cons of both lambda-liths and single responsibility functions, then dives into his alternate approach. ### Spotlight Event-driven architectures are taking 2024 by storm. Yes, they've been around for decades, but this year they really seem to be surging in popularity. [James Eastham](https://rdyset.click/AwJa8G) was on the #believeinserverless livestream last week and gave an [incredible talk on all things EDA](https://rdyset.click/0TZwNk), including the different types of events, why they are beneficial, what the trade-offs are with request/response architectures, and so much more. There was lots of valuable discussion at the end of the talk too, with actionable paths to get started with events. ### Tip of the Week Since EDA is top of mind for us this month, I thought I'd share an important post from [David Boyne](https://rdyset.click/ztGNz4) where he shares his thoughts on governance in event-driven architectures 🔥 ### New Releases Big news for Bedrock! Last week both the [Mistral FMs](https://rdyset.click/praKfr) and [Claude 3 Sonnet](https://rdyset.click/R7iVh0) are available for use. From what I hear, these are turning up the heat! In a big announcement, AWS is offering [free data transfer out to internet when moving out of AWS](https://rdyset.click/0TBBXR). Specifically, they are offering 100GB of data transfer for free automatically and asking users contact AWS Support if you need more than that. Sounds like a good deal to me! ### Last Words Hello, welcome, and congratulations to all the new AWS Community Builders and [Heroes](https://rdyset.click/H362vp)! I am so excited for each and every one of you and am thankful for your willingness to share your journeys and experiences with the community. I look forward to hearing more from you and am ready to see what you build!
